There are many reasons to switch from tobacco cigarettes to electronic Vapourisers. For one, Vapourisers do not contain the carcinogens like tobacco cigarettes.

Additionally, you can vape discreetly without disturbing people with the smell of smoke.

Whatever your reasons for making the change, here are six steps to help smooth your switch from Cigarettes to Vaping.

STEP 1: INVEST IN EQUIPMENT

Before you start vaping, make sure you have all the necessary equipment. We can show you the options and help you make the best choice to suit you and your budget.

STEP 2: CHOOSE THE RIGHT E-JUICE CONCENTRATION

Accompanying your move to a Vapouriser with a drastic drop in nicotine will make the transition more challenging for you. Rather than subjecting yourself to nicotine withdrawal right off the bat, try to keep your levels consistent when you first start vaping. You can then reduce your nicotine levels slowly if your goal is to quit.

You’ll first need to figure out how much nicotine you’re consuming with your tobacco cigarettes. Usually, the conversion rate is about one mg of nicotine in each cigarette, although some brands may have more or less. In other words, if you’re a pack-a-day smoker, you’re getting 20 mg of nicotine a day. Likewise, if you’re a two-pack-a-day smoker, you’re getting 40 mg of nicotine a day.

Once you have an estimate of your daily nicotine consumption, choose your e-juice accordingly. E-juice typically comes in concentrations of 0 mg, 6 mg, 12 mg, 18 mg, and 20 mg. This number refers to the milligrams of nicotine in every one millilitre of e-juice. For instance, if you buy a 10 mL bottle of 18 mg e-juice, the bottle would contain a total of 180 mg of nicotine, the equivalent of about 180 cigarettes, or nine packs.

STEP 3: PICK A DATE AND STOP CARRYING TOBACCO CIGARETTES ON YOU

Pick a day to begin transitioning to vaping, and plan not to carry any tobacco cigarettes on you as of that date. Instead, make sure you always have your charger, Vapouriser, and extra e-juice on you so you’re prepared if cravings hit. If you want to keep a pack at home to ease the anxiety of the transition, that’s fine initially. Just try to use tobacco cigarettes sparingly if you feel the need to keep them in the mix for a while.

STEP 4: LEARN HOW TO VAPE CORRECTLY

If you use a Vapouriser like you did a tobacco cigarette, you’re not going to get the amount of nicotine you’re used to. First, the draw from a Vapouriser will be longer and softer than from a tobacco cigarette. Try to draw the vapour for about four to six seconds. Second, try to break the habit of inhaling directly into your lungs. You want to draw the Vapouriser into your mouth before inhaling it into the lungs. Finally, hold the Vapouriser in for a beat and exhale, preferably through the nose, as slowly as possible to get the most nicotine absorption.

STEP 5: PREPARE FOR A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE

Vaping offers many of the same benefits you get from a tobacco cigarette, the most important being a nicotine rush. However, most smokers don’t stop vaping because they don’t like it; they stop because they expect to get the same “throat hit” as with tobacco cigarettes. A throat hit is the sensation you feel on the back of your throat when you inhale the smoke.

Because Vapourisers produce ‘Vape’, not smoke, the sensation you’ll get is going to be a little different. While the feeling won’t be identical, here are some things you can do with your Vapouriser setup if you’re dissatisfied with the throat hit you’re getting:

Go with a higher nicotine concentration. Bump up your nicotine level by one and see if that makes a difference. For instance, if you’re vaping 12 mg, go to 18 mg.

Use your device more often. It may take you longer to absorb the amount of nicotine you need through vaping than it would’ve smoking. Thus, don’t restrict the use of your Vapouriser only for the times and amount of time you used to smoke. Don’t hesitate to use your Vapouriser more often and for longer than you used to smoke.

Invest in a more powerful device. Inexpensive, basic Vapourisers usually offer four watts of power or less. Those levels won’t give you the thick cloud of ’Vape’ you’d get from more expensive 6-, 8-, or even 10-watt devices.

STEP 6: GO EASY ON YOURSELF AND CELEBRATE MILESTONES

Don’t be too hard on yourself if you have slip-ups initially. Transitioning away from cigarettes is a process, not an event. Remember to reward yourself for victories too. Once you’ve made it a week, a month, etc. without smoking a tobacco cigarette, treat yourself to a nice dinner, new outfit, or fun vacation, for example.

Switching from smoking to vaping will require some adjustment, of course, but these steps can help ease the transition. With our assistance and your real desire to stub out the fags you could soon be one exciting step closer to a healthier life.
